has gloss(noun) any of several closely related compounds that are produced by the thyroid gland and are active metabolically
thyroid hormone
has glosseng: The thyroid hormones, thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3), are tyrosine-based hormones produced by the thyroid gland primarily responsible for regulation of metabolism. An important component in the synthesis of thyroid hormones is iodine. The major form of thyroid hormone in the blood is thyroxine (T4), which has a longer half life than T3. The ratio of T4 to T3 released in the blood is roughly 20 to 1. Thyroxine is converted to the active T3 (three to four times more potent than T4) within cells by deiodinases (5'-iodinase). These are further processed by decarboxylation and deiodination to produce iodothyronamine (T1a) and thyronamine (T0a).

has subclass(noun) thyroid hormone that tends to lower the level of calcium in the blood plasma and inhibit resorption of bone
calcitonin, thyrocalcitonin
has subclass(noun) hormone produced by the thyroid glands to regulate metabolism by controlling the rate of oxidation in cells; "thyroxine is 65% iodine"
tetraiodothyronine, thyroxine, thyroxin, T
has subclass(noun) thyroid hormone similar to thyroxine but with one less iodine atom per molecule and produced in smaller quantity; exerts the same biological effects as thyroxine but is more potent and briefer
triiodothyronine, T, liothyronine
Meaning
Catalan
