has gloss | (noun) a man's white shirt (with a starch front) for evening wear (usually with a tuxedo) evening shirt, dress shirt |
has gloss | eng: A dress shirt (in American English), or simply shirt (also button-front or button-down shirt) is a shirt with a collar, a full-length opening at the front from the collar to the hem, and sleeves with cuffs. Dress shirts are predominantly used by men, since women usually wear blouses. The front opening is fastened using buttons or studs, and the cuffs close with buttons or cuff links. Dress shirts are normally made from woven cloth, and are often accompanied by a jacket and tie, for example with a suit or formalwear, but the shirts are also worn more casually without. In British English, a dress shirt is known as just a shirt, while dress shirt means specifically the more formal evening garment worn with black- or white- tie, also discussed below. Some of these formal shirts have stiff fronts and detachable collars attached with collar studs. "Button-down" is sometimes used incorrectly to describe the front buttoning of a shirt; a "button-down" shirt refers to a shirt with an American "button-down" collar introduced by Brooks Brothers in 1896, discussed below. |
has gloss | eng: A dress shirt is a shirt worn by men with a necktie in order to have a professional appeal and to look dignified in a crowd. In England, this is a term for a shirt that is worn with a tuxedo. |
