The sisters called themselves daughters of Mars to put terror in the heart of their enemies to show they were incredible warriors to be feared. Her name was speculated to refer to traditional New Moon torchlit processions in honor of Artemis, goddess of the hunt.

Η Αμαζόνα αυτή ίδρυσε ολόκληρη δυναστεία στον λαό των Αμαζόνων, μαζί με τη Μαρπησία, με την οποία και ταυτίζεται από ορισμένες πηγές. Υπάρχει και η παραλλαγή του ονόματός της Λαμπεδώ (Lampedo στη λατινική). Το όνομα κατά μία άποψη αναφέρεται σε παραδοσιακές λαμπαδηφορίες με πυρσούς προς τιμή της Αρτέμιδος σε κάθε Νέα Σελήνη.
