His father Beloje was a local lord of Trebinje under Rascia, becoming a Župa (administritive unit) of Vlastimir of Serbia. He married the only daughter of Vlastimir, the first female member of the House of Vlastimirović, sometime after the Bulgarian–Serbian Wars 839-846.
