The station broadcasts locally in digital-only on UHF channel 44, and is rebroadcast statewide through a network of translators. KBYU-TV is owned by Brigham Young University, which is owned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The LDS Church also owns KSL-TV, through Bonneville International). It is one of at least four PBS member stations owned and operated by a religious-based organization, the others being WLAE-TV in New Orleans, Louisiana, WXEL-TV in West Palm Beach, Florida and KMBH in the Rio Grande Valley.
