has glossdeu: Die Hitchiti waren ein Indianervolk Nordamerikas. Ihr Name leitet sich aus der Muskogee Bezeichnung ahit chita was so viel wie „Sieh den Strom hinauf“ bedeutet ab. Ihre Sprache gehörte zur Muskogee-Sprachfamilie. Sie lebten vor allem in einer Stadt gleichen Namens. Diese Stadt befand sich am Ostufer des Chattahoochhee Flusses, ca. 6 km unterhalb von Chiaha. Ihr Lebensraum beinhaltete auch eines Schmalen, durch den Fluss begrenzten Streifen Landes im Westen von Georgia. Ihre Sprache das ausgestorbene Hitchiti ist sehr eng mit der Sprache der Mikasuki verwandt. Mikasuki wird heute noch von etwa 500 Personen in Florida gesprochen. Die Sprache gilt als moderner Dialekt des Hitchiti.

has glosshrv: Hitchiti.- /od Atcik-hata, "to look up the stream"/Pleme Muskhogean Indijanaca i jedno od plemena Creek konfederacije, čiji je rani dom bio sjeverno od današnje Floride. U kronikama Hernanda de Sota područje koje su naseljavali nazivao je imenom Ocute, koje se nalazilo na ili blizu donjeg toka rijeke Ocmulgee u Georgiji. Hitchitije kasnije nalazimo kod današnjeg Macona, gdje su označeni na ranim engleskim mapama, a kasnije, oko 1715., najprije na rijeci Chattahoochee, u okrugu Henry, a kasnije na područje današnjeg okruga Chattahoochee u Georgiji. Hitchiti će sudjelovati u izgradnji plemena kojega će povijest zabilježiti pod imenom Seminole, poglavito su to Eufaula Indijanci, koji im se priključuju 1767. Kada je izvjesni Henry posjetio Hitchitije 1799. oni su imali tek 2 naselja, to su Hitchitoochee, na Flint riveru, u kraju gdje joj se pridružuje Kinchafoonee creek, i Tuttallosee (Tutalosi), na spomenutom pritoku. Godine 1832. čitava Hitchiti populacija iznosila je tek 381. Pleme će zajedno ostalim Creekima 1838. biti preseljeno u Oklahomu gdje su se integrirali u Creek populaciju.
