has glossdeu: Als Plattenpanzer wird eine aus körpergerecht geformten Metallplatten bestehende Rüstung bezeichnet. Er stellt eine Form von Schutzkleidung dar, die im Kampfeinsatz z. B. vor Stichwaffen schützen soll. Plattenpanzer, die einen Großteil des Körpers schützten, kamen gegen Ende des 14. Jahrhunderts in Westeuropa auf und fanden bis in das 17. Jahrhundert hinein Verwendung. Dabei wurden sie ständig weiter entwickelt, den Plattenpanzer gibt es so gesehen nicht. Während die wichtigsten Teile derartiger Rüstungen meist nur aus einer oder wenigen Stahlplatten bestanden, mussten bestimmte Körperteile durch zahlreiche Metallschienen (Geschübe) oder durch Kettengeflecht geschützt werden, um dem Träger eine möglichst hohe Beweglichkeit zu gewährleisten.
