| has gloss | eng: Cuckoo bumblebees are members of the subgenus Psithyrus in the bumblebee genus Bombus. Up until recently, the 29 species of Psithyrus were considered to constitute a separate genus. They are a specialized lineage which has lost social behavior, and lost the ability to collect pollen, and are instead cleptoparasitic in the colonies of other bumblebees. Before finding and invading a host colony, a Psithyrus female (there is no caste system in these species) will feed directly from flowers. Once she has infiltrated a host colony, the Psithyrus female will kill or subdue the queen of that colony and forcibly (using pheromones and/or physical attacks) "enslave" the workers of that colony to feed her and her developing young. When the young emerge, they leave the colony to mate, and the females seek out other nests to attack. |

Psithyrus) - rodzaj owadów społecznych z rodziny pszczołowatych, pasożytujących na społecznościach trzmieli (angielska nazwa cuckoo bumblebee - stanowi połączenie dwóch wyrazów: trzmiel i kukułka). Do rodzaju Psithyrus należą owady duże (długość odwłoka do 35 mm), gęsto owłosione, często jaskrawo ubarwione, ale zwykle z przewagą czerni lub też całkiem czarne. Trzmielce, podobnie jak i trzmiele, charakteryzują się jednorocznym cyklem życiowym. Samica, po mającym miejsce w końcu lata zapłodnieniu, zimuje (hibernacja) w komorze podziemnej. W kolejnym roku wychodzi (lecz później od samic trzmieli), wyszukuje w pełni rozwinięte gniazdo pasożytowanego gatunku trzmiela i zajmuje miejsce tamtejszej królowej, zabijając ją. Jaja składa w plastry byłego gospodarza, uprzednio niszcząc jego potomstwo. Z jaj lęgną się czerwie (lęg trwa do tygodnia), są intensywnie karmione, a po 2 tygodniach tworzą kokony i przepoczwarzają się. Rozwój od jaja do owada doskonałego trwa od 28 do 40 dni. |

Antes de encontrar e invadir uma colónia para se abrigar, a fêmea alimenta-se directamente das flores. Quando esta encontrar e invadir uma colónia mata a rainha dessa colónia e toma seu lugar e depois escraviza os trabalhadores da colónia para a poder alimentar a si e ao jovem que está em desenvolvimento. Passado um tempo, os jovens crescem e a fêmea abandona a ninhada e vai à procura de outra colónia para invadir. Esta poderá atacar membros e a rainha que a acolhe noutra colónia e mesmo sentindo ameaçada poderá atacar um humano mas naturalmente não é agressiva. |
