| has gloss | eng: In medicine, laryngospasm is an uncontrolled/involuntary muscular contraction (spasm) of the laryngeal cords. The condition typically lasts less than 30 or 60 seconds, and causes a partial blocking of breathing in, while breathing out remains easier. It may be triggered when the vocal cords or the area of the trachea below the cords detects the entry of water, mucus, blood, or other substance. It is characterized by stridor and or retractions. Some people suffer from frequent laryngospasms, whether awake or asleep. In an ear, nose and throat practice, it is typically seen in people who have silent reflux disease. | has gloss | ita: Il laringospasmo (laringite spastica o croup spasmodico) è una condizione patologica delle vie aeree superiori, dovuta alla contrazione spasmodica dei muscoli della laringe per cause diverse, come infezioni, infiammazioni o allergie, che provoca una contrazione delle corde vocali e quindi una ostruzione del flusso aereo con la conseguente sensazione di soffocamento. Le principali cause dello spasmo sono l’infezione delle vie aeree, molto frequente nei bambini soggetti ad allergie o asma ed in particolare in inverno, quando si è più vulnerabili anche a piccole infezioni come raffreddore o influenza ed il reflusso gastro-esofageo, in particolare nelle ore notturne, che può portare anche a gravi crisi di apnea. Il laringospasmo può insorgere anche a causa dell'alta quantità di acqua salata nelle vie respiratorie in conseguenza ad un annegamento. |
