Supyire is spoken by an estimated 364,000 Supyire people, according to Ethnologue. The language belongs to the larger language group of Senufo, a member of the Gur subgroup of Niger-Congo languages. In their native language, the noun sùpyìré literally translates into both “the people” and “the language spoken by the people”.
