has gloss | eng: Tiqui-taca is the name that the Spanish and Latin American media coined to describe the style of association football played by the Spanish national football team during the UEFA Euro 2008 championships and afterwards. It is characterized by a large number of both short and long passes deployed by multiple players of the team before culminating in a definitive strike on the opposing team's goal. It involves mostly the whole team, with exceptions of the goalkeeper. Players such as Xavi, Andrés Iniesta, Xabi Alonso, Santi Cazorla, David Silva, Marcos Senna, and Cesc Fàbregas usually employ this tactic during their games, which tires the opposing players since they have to run more to try to cut the ball. Even more offensive players, such as Fernando Torres, David Villa, and Dani Güiza, as well as defensive players, such as Sergio Ramos, Joan Capdevila and Carles Puyol, may be added into the passing game, forcing the adversary into running even more and try to cover more ground. |
