has gloss	eng: Time Commanders is a series of programmes made by Lion TV and PlayGen for BBC Two that ran for two seasons from 2003 to 2005. The programmes, originally hosted by Eddie Mair and more recently by Richard Hammond, feature an edited version of the game engine behind the real-time strategy game Rome: Total War to recreate famous battles of the ancient world. The battles are replayed by 4-player teams from diverse backgrounds. The teams are unfamiliar with computer games, to make sure their gaming skills do not influence their success. After a brief introduction of the battle, including an overview of military units, terrain and available forces, the players have to develop a strategy and then deploy their forces. Two of the players are selected as generals, who will direct the battle and have access to a strategic map.

has gloss	nld: Time Commanders is een engelse TV serie gemaakt door Lion TV voor BBC Two. Van deze serie zijn twee seizoenen gemaakt die van 2003 tot 2005 liepen. De serie werd eerst gepresenteerd door Eddie Mair, en in het tweede seizoen nam Richard Hammond de presentatie waar. In deze serie werden historische veldslagen nagespeeld met een aangepaste versie van het spel Rome: Total War van The Creative Assembly. De teams van vier personen die de slagen naspeelden hadden geen ervaring met computergames om te voorkomen dat dit een effect zou hebben op de uitslag. Na een korte introductie over het gevecht worden de teams opgedeeld in twee generaals en twee luitenanten. De generaals bepalen de algemene strategie, de luitenanten besturen de helft van het leger. In elke aflevering komen twee historische experts voor die de spelers wat tactische informatie geven en hun tactieken van commentaar voorzien. Een van deze experts was meestal Dr. Aryeh Nusbacher, de andere experts was Mike Loades (in de eerste afleveringen), Saul David, Mark Urban of Dr. Adrian Goldsworthy.
