Situated along the coastline, it has been considered the most prosperous neighborhood in Gaza. The main street that runs through Gaza, Omar Mukhtar Street runs northwest-southeast in the district and the main coastal road, Ahmad Orabi/Rasheed Street northeast-southwest. The intense rivalry between Christian Gaza and Pagan Maioumas continued throughout the Byzantine era, even after the population of Maioumas had been converted to Christianity by Imperial decree and the Pagan sanctuaries destroyed by Porphyry of Gaza.

has gloss	heb: א-רימאל (בערבית: الرمال - "החולות") היא שכונה במערב העיר עזה. השכונה משתרעת לאורך העיר, במקביל לחוף הים, אולם אינה גובלת בו. גבולה המערבי מרוחק כמה מאות מטרים מהחוף. נוהגים לחלק את השכונה לרימאל הצפונית ולרימאל הדרומית. בעיקרה זוהי שכונת מגורים, אולם חלקה המזרחי של השכונה, הסמוך למרכז העיר ול"כיכר ג'ונדי", כולל גם מבני ציבור. השכונה נחשבת כשכונה האמידה ביותר בעיר עזה. מרובים בה הבתים המרווחים וגם הרחובות רחבים ביחס לרוב שכונות העיר.
