It was first climbed in 1957 by a team consisting of Royal Robbins, Mike Sherrick, and Jerry Gallwas. Its current rating is VI 5.9 A1 or 5.12 for the free variation. It is recognized in the historic climbing text Fifty Classic Climbs of North America and considered a classic around the world.
