has glosseng: The Pilot is a pilot boat launched in 1914 in San Diego. She served as the official pilot boat San Diego Bay for 82 years, with no more than three consecutive days of downtime. During World War II, she was used by the Coast Guard as a pilot boat and patrol boat, and decorated with six six-month service chevrons. She was donated to the Maritime Museum of San Diego in 1996 and underwent restoration. Afterwards, the Pilot hosted educational tours of San Diego Bay, and often accompanied the Maritime Museum's other vessels (most notably, the Star of India) when away from their docks.
