has glosseng: An outpost is a square which is protected by a pawn and which cannot be attacked by an opponents pawn. In the figure to the right (from the game Anand-Ivanchuk, Amber, 2001 ), c4 is an outpost, occupied by Whites knight. It cant be attacked by Blacks pawns because there is no pawn on the d-file, and Black's pawn on the b-file is too far advanced.
