It was written by Tim Freedman, with Pinky Beecroft (Matt Ford) and Chit Chat Von Loopin Stab (Glen Dormand) (from the band Machine Gun Fellatio) helping with the lyrics. The single is the band's most successful and well known, voted the #1 song in the Triple J Hottest 100, 1997. Former Australian Prime Minister Gough Whitlam, for whom the band was named, announced the winning news on air.
