Maurice Leenhardt hi va comptar fins a 37 idiomes i dialectes. Un crioll, el tayo que es parla al barri de Saint-Louis del municipi de Le Mont-Dore, sovint se linclou. Algunes d'elles, però, tenen pocs parlants o estan en vies de desaparició.
