Ursprünglich war Nappaleder nur die Bezeichnung für Handschuh- und Bekleidungsleder, benannt nach dem Napa Valley in den USA. Heute ist Nappaleder jedoch der Sammelbegriff für besonders geschmeidiges Glattleder aller Tierarten und Verwendungszwecke, so zum Beispiel auch für Polsterleder.
