has gloss | eng: Mummia is a kind of resin which has in the past been used as one of the ingredients in the preservation process of mummies. It is still made and for sale in Yemen, where it is used as a folk medicine to treat wounds: the resin is dissolved into warm sesame oil and then applied to the wound. It is not used as incense and the smell is rather unattractive; it does not resemble the aromatic fragrance of frankincense, another resin widely available in Yemen. As of now, it is unclear of which tree it is made, whether it is available in other countries and the exact etymological connection with mummies. |
