The rocks are situated on the east margin of Ongul Sound, opposite East Ongul Island, site of the scientific station of the Japanese Antarctic Research Expedition (JARE), 1957-1962. The name Mukai-iwa, meaning "facing rocks" or "opposite rocks," was given by Japanese Antarctic Research Expedition (JARE) Headquarters in 1972. |
