Most of the canals were covered over by roads and streets in the 1970s due to increasing volumes of traffic and diminishing necessity of water transportation and irrigation.

has gloss	zho: 瑠公圳位於台北，通常指1740年由郭錫瑠興建的灌溉水道，今幾乎已經全部予以填平荒廢。另外很多人將今台北市新生北路高架橋下，台灣總督府於1930年興建的排污水溝也稱為是瑠公圳。在日治時代也被稱為「堀川」。
