has gloss	eng: Inorodtsy (singular: inorodets), is a legal term used in the Russian Empire in reference to non-Slavic population of the Empire. Literally meaning "of different descent/nation", it is sometimes translated as allogeneous (people) (cf. "allogenes") and sometimes as "aliens". The latter translation is misleading, since in most cases the term was applied to the indigenous population of Siberia, Central Asia, and Russian Far East. Initially introduced as a legal statute for special treatment of certain categories of population (including a certain degree of protection of their traditional life), for which some laws of the Empire were deemed inappropriate, over time the term acquired a pejorative connotation of "lacking culture, uncivilized peoples". Privileges and special treatment for inorodtsy included exemption of military service, protection of grazing lands, and religious and governmental self-administration.

has gloss	nld: Inorodtsy (Russisch: инородцы) is een Russisch woord dat letterlijk "andere oorsprong" betekent (ino = ander; rod = geboorte/oorsprong) en tussen 1822 en 1917 door de Russische overheid gebruikt werd om inheemse volken aan te duiden in Siberië die werden gedwongen om de jasak (belasting in natura) te betalen binnen de gebieden die waren geannexeerd door de Russische overheden. Informeel werden er echter alle niet-Slavische volken mee aangeduid in het Russische Rijk. Historici hebben gewezen op het feit dat tegen het einde van de 19e eeuw, en met name na de instelling van de doema in 1906, de informele term de formele term grotendeels had vervangen.
