Train braking is therefore initiated centrally from the locomotive using a winder. This causes the brake clips to be applied on individual wagons, assisted by a servo system which makes use of the rotation of the axle. The brakes operate automatically if the cable snaps. A typical feature of Heberlein brakes is the clearly visible cable run on top of the wagons, but cables can also be led underneath the wagons, as on the Spreewaldbahn railway line. Heberlein brakes were eventually largely replaced by compressed-air brakes or, sometimes, by vacuum brakes on narrow gauge railway vehicles. |

Zdrže jsou na kola vozů přitlačovány pomocí pákového mechanismu s využitím otáčení náprav. Brzda účinkuje samočinně při přerušení lana. Pro tuto brzdu jsou typické kladky na střechách vozů, případně stojany s kladkami na čelech nízkých vozů. V průběhu času byla tato brzda nahrazena tlakovou, popřípadě sací brzdou. |

| has gloss | deu: Die Heberleinbremse ist eine durchgängige Eisenbahnbremse, die mit einer mechanischen Seilbetätigung ausgeführt wird. Die Bremsung des Zuges wird dabei zentral von der Lokomotive über eine Haspel eingeleitet. Das Anlegen der Bremsbacken erfolgt dabei auf den einzelnen Wagen durch eine Servovorrichtung welche die Achsdrehung ausnutzt. Die Bremse arbeitet selbsttätig bei einem Seilriss. Typisch für die Heberleinbremse sind die gut sichtbaren Seilführungen auf den Wagen, die Seile konnten aber auch unter den Wagen geführt werden (Spreewaldbahn). Sie wurde schließlich durch die Druckluftbremse bzw. bei Schmalspurbahnen auch durch die Saugluftbremse abgelöst. |

| has gloss | jpn: ヘーベルラインブレーキ（）は、車両間に渡されたケーブルを利用した仕組みの、鉄道の貫通ブレーキである。主にドイツで用いられている。ブレーキは、機関車で巻き上げ機によって操作される。軸の回転を利用したサーボ機構により、各車両の制輪子が作動する。ケーブルが切れるとブレーキが自動的に掛かる仕組みになっている。ヘーベルラインブレーキの典型的な特徴としては、車両の天井の上に張られた外部からもはっきり見えるケーブルがあるが、シュプレーヴァルト鉄道 ( ) のように車両の床下にケーブルが張られた例もある。ヘーベルラインブレーキは最終的には、主に空気ブレーキに、また狭軌の鉄道車両の一部では真空ブレーキに置き換えられた。 |
