has gloss | eng: The former First Baptist Church is an historic Baptist church building built in 1909 at 8601 Woodward Avenue in Detroit, Michigan. It was designed by architect Guy J. Vinton in the Late Gothic Revival style. On August 3, 1982, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places. It is now the Peoples Community Church. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. The original church was located at Fort and Griswold Streets; the building on Woodward was constructed in 1910 as members moved out of the downtown area. However, after World War II, membership decreased, and in 1957 the congregation sold the building to the Peoples Community Church. The First Baptist congregation moved on to Southfield and constructed a new church in 1965. |
