The story is set on an island faced with the problem of a rising shoreline, caused by a melting ice cap. Mara must think of a way to save herself, the other villagers and, most importantly, the world. The book was short listed for the Whitbread Children’s Book of the Year in 2002. Exodus is part of a trilogy, the sequel to the book is "Zenith", published in 2007, followed by "Aurora", which has yet to be published.
