has gloss	eng: In essence, enhancer traps are transgenic constructions by the fusing of two proteins that are inserted into the genome for the identification of enhancers. Its structure contains a mobile element (necessary for random insertion in the genome) usually some sort of P element (a promoter that must be sensitive to the enhancer) and a reporter gene. The reporter gene is necessary for identification of the spatial regulation by enhancers. The most common and basic enhancer traps are: P[ lacZ ] from bacterium E.coli and P[GAL4] from yeast.

Tale tecnica è utile a "pescare" sequenze regolative in una sequenza di DNA. L enhancer trap è un costrutto che prende il nome di vettore nel quale è presente un gene reporter il quale verrà espresso soltanto se il vettore andrà ad inserirsi nelle adiacenze della sequenza di DNA che si decide di "intrappolare". Lo scopo dellesperimento non è quello di catturare un enhancer particolare, ma si vuole trovare un qualsiasi enhancer; la tecnica dellenhancer trap è molto più efficiente della promoter trap in quanto gli enhancer funzionano anche bidirezionalmente e a distanza.
