The microparticle consists of a plasma membrane surrounding a small amount of cytosol. The membrane of the endothelial microparticle contains receptors and other cell surface molecules which enable the identification of the endothelial origin of the microparticle, and allow it to be distinguished from microparticles from other cells, such as platelets.

has gloss	deu: Unter endothelialen oder membranären Mikropartikeln versteht man in der Medizin Vesikel aus Zellmembranbestandteilen, die von verschiedenen Zellen wie Blutplättchen oder bestimmten weißen Blutkörperchen, den Monozyten, ins Blut abgegeben werden. Aufgrund ihrer Größe werden diese Vesikel als Mikropartikel bezeichnet. Endotheliale Mikropartikel enthalten verschiedene Proteine wie zum Beispiel das transmembranöse Glykoprotein Thromboplastin (engl. "tissue factor") oder Zelladhäsionsmoleküle. Sie spielen eine wichtige Rolle bei der Blutgerinnung.
