This is imparted largely through almost slicing across the ball, and utilisation of either the inside or outside foot depending on which direction the ball should bend towards. Curl is especially evident from free kicks, shots from outside the penalty area and crosses. Differences between balls can also affect the amount of swerve: traditional leather footballs are too heavy to curl without great skill, whereas the modern Adidas Teamgeist bends with a much lower effort threshold. As a general rule, the lighter and smoother the ball the more deviation there is. Making the ball curl in the air was first developed in Sheffield during the late 1870s. At the time it was referred to as a screw shot. |

Η κίνησή της αυτή, σε συνδυασμό με τη μεταφορική της κίνηση, αναγκάζουν την μπάλα να μην κινείται σε ευθεία τροχιά αλλά να ακολουθεί τροχιά κωνικής τομής. Το φάλτσο εφαρμόζεται στην μπάλα χτυπώντας την πλαγίως και πολλές φορές με απότομη κίνηση του ποδιού κατά μήκος της επιφάνειάς της είτε με το τμήμα του παπουτσιού που βρίσκεται προς το μη συμμετέχον στο χτύπημα πόδι (εσωτερικό φάλτσο), είτε με το εξωτερικό τμήμα του παπουτσιού (εξωτερικό φάλτσο). Τα σουτ με φάλτσο χρησιμοποιούνται πολύ συχνά στις εκτελέσεις φάουλ κοντά στο αντίπαλο τέρμα, στα κόρνερ και στα σουτ έξω από τη μεγάλη περιοχή. |
