It was created in 1839 for Nicholas William Ridley-Colborne, a former Member of Parliament for Bletchingley, Malmesbury, Appleby, Thetford, Horsham and Wells. Ridley-Colborne was the younger son of Sir Matthew White Ridley, 2nd Baronet of Blagdon and Sarah Colborne, daughter of Benjamin Colborne. Matthew White Ridley, 1st Viscount Ridley was his great-nephew. The Barony became extinct on Lord Colborne's death in 1854. |
