The magazine was published in New York City, and was founded by Gertrude Emerson Sen, who served as the first editor. The magazine was later edited by Elsie Weil. Writers published in the magazine included John Dos Passos, Lev Nussimbaum, Edgar Snow and Rose Wilder Lane.
